PATRICK D. SMITH
Patrick Smith was born in Mendenhall, Mississippi, and educated at the University of Mississippi. He moved to Florida in 1966 and served as director of college relations at the Brevard Community College in Cocoa until 1988 when he retired. He still maintains an exhaustive speaking schedule, telling groups of every sort how literature can better our world. Two of Smith's novels have been translated and published in Russia. In 1995 Patrick Smith was elected by the Southern Academy of Letters, Arts and Science for its highest literary award, The Order of the South. Previous recipients include Eudora Welty, James Dickey, and Reynolds Price. In 1996 he was named a Florida Ambassador of the Arts. He and his wife live on Merritt Island, Florida. His novel
Angel City was made into a feature-length motion picture.
